Ron Diehl, 64, of Decatur, IN died on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Ron was born in Bluffton, IN, on October 1, 1957, the son of the late Forest and Vivian (Warthman) Diehl. He was first married to Tessa Hawkins on April 14, 1982, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2005. On May 17, 2018, Ron married Cathy (Fegley) Basham.
He was a 1976 graduate of Bellmont High School. He worked at Bunge in steam and power and then in the elevator for 40 years, retiring in 2019.
Ron loved being outdoors and fishing. He enjoyed his over 40 years on Silver Lake in Kinderhook, MI, where he had a cottage and cherished the memories made there.
He loved spending time with his grandkids who adored him because Ron truly was a kid at heart. He also enjoyed racing slot cars with his grandkids and buying them matchbox cars. He truly enriched the lives of his family.
Ron is survived by his wife Cathy Diehl of Decatur; 2 step sons, Jamie (Amy) Bebout and Matthew (Leslie) Bebout; 2 step daughters, Jamie (Brian) Shamo and Jessica (Cale) Clifton all of Decatur; a brother, Ken (Lorene) Diehl of Springfield, OH; 2 sisters, Marge Gerber of Bluffton and Melinda Diehl of Seattle, WA; 7 grandchildren, Taylor Bebout, Kaden and Grace Bebout, Jett and Trey Shamo and Crew and Joss Clifton.
Ron was also preceded in death by a brother, James Diehl
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation prior from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Pastor Steve Austin will be officiating and burial will immediately follow in Backesto (Springhill) Cemetery.
