Robert C. Loomis, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Monroe, IN, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Adams Woodcrest. He was born in Ft. Wayne, IN, on January 30, 1933, the son of the late Ben and Helen (Galland) Loomis. On December 27, 1952, he married Carol Altevogt and she preceded him in death in November of 1971. He then on March 2 1973, he married Shirley J. Ray and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2020.
He was a member of the Decatur Baptist Church and was a 1951 graduate of South Side High School. He worked for Rae Magnet Wire for 40 years before retiring in 1995.
Bob and his late wife, Shirley enjoyed the outdoors and liked camping at various state parks. He was an avid runner taking part in many 5Ks and ran the Indy Half Marathon. He was also a member of the Ft. Wayne Track Club. Bob was an accomplished athlete and played basketball, football, ran track and was a skilled bowler.
He is survived by 4 sons, Kent (Judy) Loomis of Hoagland, Gary (Kathy) Loomis of Missouri, Mike (Katie) Schindler of Ft. Wayne, and Larry Schindler of Minnesota; 4 daughters, Kathy (Steve) Ballinger of Tennessee, Lori (Gregg) Harvey of Monroe, Linda (Rick) Geimer, of Decatur, and Toots (Phil) Kolter of Decatur; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Bob was preceded in death by 3 sons Louie, Sam, and Tony Schindler, 2 grandchildren, a brother, Stanley Loomis, and a sister, in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Haggard – Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Ballinger officiating. There will be an hour of calling prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. in Lindenwood Cemetery, in Fort Wayne.
