L. Dale Gagle, 90, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at his residence. He was the son of the late Paul D. and Lalah O. (May) Gagle, born May 22, 1931, in Portland, Indiana. On May 5, 1957, he married Janet A. Seither.
Dale was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the F&AM #571, the Scottish Rite Ft. Wayne Valley, and the Mizpah Shrine where he was director of the Mizpah Shrine Chanters. He was also a member of the Adams County Shrine Club-Calliopers, Adams County Coin Club, Past President of Decatur Rotary Club, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce, a 35-year member of the DECA at Bellmont High School, and Treasurer of Salvation Army. Dale served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 and also played in the Navy Band.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janet A. Gagle of Decatur; two sons, Bruce D. (Lynda) Gagle of Charlette, NC, Brian L. (Christa) Gagle of Melbourne, AUS; two daughters, Lynn D. (Kevin) Roper of Cedarville, OH, Laura K. (David) Reynolds of Ft Wayne; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Leon Gagle; a sister, Donna Gagle; 3 grandchildren, Caitlin, Courtney Gagle, and Kyle Reynolds.
Visitation will be 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, followed by a Masonic Service at 5:00 p.m. by Decatur Masonic Lodge #571.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with one hour of calling prior to the service. Pastor Samuel Padgett, Rev. Bruce Gagle, and Pastor Ed Karges will be officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Military Gravesite Rites by American Legion Post #43.
