Joan M. Laurent, 97, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Adams Woodcrest. Joan was born on November 15, 1923, in Indianapolis to the late Cyril S. and Mary (Kipley) DesJean. After the passing of her mother, she was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle John and Clara Neering. On February 10, 1947, Joan married Robert J. Laurent. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Joan was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of Women of St. Mary. She was a homemaker and also was an office worker for Central Soya, Adams Co. Assessor’s Office, and Bank of America in Florida.
She is survived by three sons, James R. (Randel Rogers) Laurent of Fort Myers, FL, Terry J. (Terri) Laurent of Warsaw, IN, and Gregory A. (Betsy) Laurent of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters, Charlotte A. Sheets (Don Bixler) of Decatur, IN and Kathleen S. (Terry) Huston of Fort Wayne, IN; 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyril S. DesJean and Richard DesJean; and a sister, Florence “Dolly” Diette.
A 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Ruppert officiating. Visitation will be prior to Mass from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the St. Mary Parish Hall. Per the family’s request, masks are optional.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Masses, St. Joe School, or Heart to Heart Hospice.
