Obituary

Diane F. Carpenter, 74, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born in Decatur, IN, on April 23, 1947, the daughter of the late Wilbur “Bill” and late Eleanor (Volmer) Black. On March 29, 1963, she married Thomas Carpenter. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2014.

She was a life long parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, was a member of the Rosary Society and American Legion Auxiliary. Diane spent her time baby-sitting and was a homemaker.

Diane is survived by her son, Scott (Wendy) Carpenter of Fairfield, OH; a daughter, Lauri Carpenter of Decatur; 3 grandchildren, Ellie, Sarah and Nathan Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Carpenter; a sister, Carmen Hurst.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:30 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with visitation an hour before the service from 9:00-10:00am, in the Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be presiding and burial will immediately follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Masses or Energized By Ebony.
