Allen W. “Big Al” Bowen, 84, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born on December 28, 1937, in Decatur, IN, the son of the late Kermit F. and Bertha V. (Heath) Bowen. He married Ann Foor on April 16, 1958.
Al attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Al retired from Phelps Dodge after 31 years of service and worked for the Highway Department for 15 years; most recent he had worked for Vinnies and Monroe Package Liquor for 10 years.
Al was a member of the Moose Lodge 1311, Eagles Lodge, V.F.W. and S.A.L. American Legion; he was an avid Purdue fan. Al loved sitting on his front porch with his neighbors.
Allen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Bowen of Decatur; daughter Lisa (Rex) Harris of West Chester, OH; son-in-law David Reihman of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren Nicholas Reihman and Carli Reihman; two great grandchildren, McKenzie and Aiden; brother Robert (Gloria) Bowen of Decatur, IN
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Melanie Reihman, October 6, 2020.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 and 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday March 26, 2022 also at the funeral, with Karen Garner officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flowers, Preferred memorials may be made to Adams County Cancer Coalition, Moose Lodge or Eagles Lodge.
