Arlene R. Bentz, 86, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Adams Memorial Hospital. Arlene was born in Adams County on September 12, 1932 to the late Clarence H. and Elise S. (Bleeke) Dersch. On September 26, 1953, Arlene married Francis H. “Smoke” Bentz and after 50 years together he preceded her in death on May 22, 2004.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the Women of St. Mary. She was also involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 43 and the V.F.W.
Arlene was a 1950 graduate of Decatur H.S. She worked at G.E. in Decatur for several years in the 50’s and then became a homemaker.
She is survived by 2 sons, Dennis L. (Carol) Bentz and Alan A. Bentz both of Decatur; 3 daughters, Deborah A. (Dennis) Covington of Dillsboro, Jayne M. (Todd) Swygart of Decatur and Amy S. (Steve) Buuck of Ft. Wayne; a brother, Wilbur Dersch of Decatur and a sister, Dorothy Gage of Decatur; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by 3 sons, Richard and Robert Bentz in infancy, and James A. “Tony” Bentz on Jan. 24, 2016; a granddaughter, Natasha E. Bentz.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be officiating and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the following: ACCF Angel Cancer Fund or St. Joseph Catholic School.
