William “Bill” D. Schindler, 79, of Monroe, IN, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at The Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home in Rockford, OH. He was born in Adams County, on December 19, 1941, the son of the late David and Irene (Affolder) Schindler. On January 29, 1966, he married Carolyn J. Yake, the daughter of Evan and Vergene (Neuenschwander) Yake.
He was a 1959 graduate of Geneva High School; worked as a Finisher for W.E.Reusser in Berne, IN; Automatic Sprinkler in Monroe, IN. Bill retired from Micro Precision in Berne, working as a Machinist, for 26 years.
Bill was a member of Grace Fellowship in Decatur, since 2017. Through the years, he served his Lord as a trustee, head usher and various other duties. He was a quiet man by nature and loved his family. He enjoyed many different activities through the years, such as: remote control airplanes, fixing things, his corvettes and keeping his vehicles clean.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army in France and Turkey from 1963-1965, was in the Army Reserves until October 1969.
Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Schindler, 2 sons, Davis (Jodi Neuenschwander) Chaires, Brent (Jeri) Schindler both of Monroe; 3 grandchildren, Jayde (Travis) Figgins of Zephyrhills, FL, Jeramy (Haley Schultz) Chaires of Decatur, Emily (Colyn) Torson of Decatur; a step-grandson, Michael Broderick of Fort Wayne; a step-granddaughter, Kristin (Nick) Anstett of Uniondale, IN; 4 great-grandchildren, Brennen & Paige Figgins and Libby & Slade Chaires; a sister, Doris Foster of N. Manchester; a brother, Arthur Schindler of Berne; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Schindler in infancy; a granddaughter, Lauren Schindler in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Pastor Dan York will be officiating and burial will immediately follow in Ray Cemetery, with military graveside rights by the American Legion Post 43.
