Obituary

Wanda L. Gilliland, 89, of rural Decatur, IN, former longtime resident of Chattanooga, OH, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at her residence She was born September 14, 1930 in Chattanooga, Mercer County, OH, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Vivian B. (Gibbons) Carr. On March 3, 1951, she married Doyle R. Gilliland and after 56 years together he preceded her in death on November 16, 2007.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and worked as a homemaker.

Wanda loved taking care of and spending time with her family that meant so much to her. She especially loved cheering on her grandchildren as they participated in horse shows and sporting events. 

She is survived 4 daughters, Cheryl Reynolds of Decatur, Teresa D. (Michael) Steinke of Chattanooga, OH, Karla Braun and Toni (Scott) Lautzenheiser both of Decatur; 5 grandsons, 2 step granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren.

Wanda was also preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law, John Reynolds and Steven Braun; a brother, Robert Carr and a sister-in-law, Leola Carr.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. There will be a limited number of people allowed in the facility at a time to view. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Ruppert presiding. 

Burial will take place at a later date in East Bethel Cemetery, rural Mercer County, OH.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or the Adams Central Football Program.
