Roger L. DeRoo, 76, of Monroe, Indiana passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Pleasant Mills, Indiana on September 18, 1945, the son of the late Harry and Hazel (Hammons) DeRoo. On July 21, 1973, he married Cheryl Cook and she survives.
Roger honorably served his country in the United States Army.
He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Decatur. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion Post 241 – Waynedale and a member of the Rollin’ Thunder Car Club.
Roger retired in 2005, as a supervisor from Bunge in Decatur following 34 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl DeRoo of Monroe, Indiana; son, Corey (Abby) DeRoo of Monroe, Indiana; son, Rusty (Nikki) DeRoo of Bluffton, Indiana; son, Rodney DeRoo of Decatur, Indiana; son, Matthew DeRoo of Convoy, Ohio; two sisters, Machelle (Clark) Alspaugh of Decatur, Indiana and Linda McAllister of Decatur; aunt, Mildred Painter of Decatur, Indiana; and six grandchildren Madison, Mason, Makena, Elliana, Arabella, and Zelah DeRoo.
Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Howard “Gene” DeRoo.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home with Pastor Dan York officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery with Military Rites rendered by the American Legion Post #43.
Family will receive friends from 12 noon till 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday.
Preferred memorials can be given to American Legion Post #241.
