Richard A. “Dick” Fravel, 76, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his residence. Dick was born in Adams County on February 16, 1945, the son of the late Herbert W. and Mary M. (Andrews) Fravel. On February 25, 1984, Dick married Myrna J. Laker.
Dick was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He served his beloved country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He worked as a machine operator for DANA for 37 years. Upon retiring he became the maintenance man for St. Joseph Catholic School for 7 years and continued to drive school bus for functions until recently.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864, Loyal Order of the Moose 1311, American Legion Post 43, and the NRA.
Dick loved being a dad and grandpa. He was supportive and enjoyed watching his children grow and never missed sporting events, music shows, dance recitals, or school activities. He was an avid golfer and treasured the time he spent teaching his children to play.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Myrna Fravel of Decatur; 5 children, Robert A. (Nicole) Fravel of Decatur, Deborah L. Hesting of Ft. Wayne, Bridget S. (Nicholas) Razo, Audra R. (Patrick) Briede, and Cecilia M. Fravel all of Decatur; 9 grandchildren, Dillon, Taran, & Logan Fravel, Charley Lee, Roman Razo, Lillian & Michaela Briede, Gabriel & Vivian Fravel; 2 step grandchildren, Keaton and Kennedy Razo; 1 great grandchild, Izabell Fravel.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry H. Fravel
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Jose Panamattathil, VC and Father David Ruppert concelebrating. Military Honors will be rendered at the church by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
