Paul Leroy “Buck” Buckingham, 93, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Adams Woodcrest. He was born in Portland, IN, on April 21, 1928, the son of the late Kermit and Beatrice (Boehm) Buckingham. He grew up in Jay City, IN, where he lived with his grandparents, Leroy and Emma Boehm. He then graduated from Jefferson High School in 1946.

After high school he served in the U.S. Navy. On May 20, 1950, he married Beverly Ann Gilbert and after 64 years she preceded him in death on April 12, 2015.

Paul loved to bowl and was on several teams over the years. In his later years he loved to make his stops around town and visit people. Everyone knew Paul! He also loved his rides to watch the sunsets.

Paul was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 43 and the Moose Lodge 1311. After retiring from International Harvester in Fort Wayne, IN, he worked part time at the Shaffer Wholesale Company.

He is survived by 5 children, Kathleen S. (Craig Barkley) Buckingham-Baker, Debra (Phil) Braun, Kevin (Laurel) Buckingham, and Melanie (Matt) Macke all of Decatur and Teresa K. (James) Stevenson of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Don (Heather) Williams, Nathan (Stephanie) Kuck, Emily (Jerry) Hummer, Melanie (David) Teixeira, Jonathan (Erica) Kuck, James (Jasmine) Baker, Heather (Marc) Baker, Natalie (Dan) Micoff, Jennifer (Marc) Mangahas, Kathleen Stevenson, Haylee (Caleb) Holman, Kermit & Samuel Buckingham, Stephanie (Joel) Alberson, Caitlin (Orion) Guerra, and Matthew (Karrie) Macke; 3 step grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous step great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Doug J. Braun and Jameson D. Braun and a great-great granddaughter.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in the Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 43.
