Martha Sue (Sefton) Kelsey, of Ft. Wayne, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, peacefully and with loved ones surrounding her at StoryPoint Saline in Saline, MI. After 97 years, this was the way it was supposed to be.
She was born in Anderson, IN, on December 7, 1923, the daughter of the late Earl M. and Kathleen A. (Norton) Sefton. On October 26, 1946, she married Eugene P. Kelsey and after 69 years together he preceded her in death on March 9, 2016.
Sue was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked for St. Joseph Medical Center for many years. She was also a hospice volunteer for Parkview Memorial and St. Joseph’s Hospitals. She along with her late husband, Gene, served for over 20 years in the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen.
No reason to be sad but to acknowledge a life well lived. You might say she didn’t leave much behind materially, but she left so much else behind in the memories of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent her whole life taking care of others, first as a nurse and later in retirement through hospice. Now it is time for her to be taken care of.
She is survived by a son, Mark S. (Tari) Kelsey of Oak Park, IL; 2 daughters, Kathleen G. Kelsey of Washington State and Marita J. (Mike) Martin of Chelsea, MI; a daughter-in-law, Julia Meek of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and was Grandma & Aunt Sue to many.
Sue was preceded in death by a son, James (Jim) Kelsey; a granddaughter, Amanda Martin; 2 brothers, G. William Sefton and Thomas N. Sefton; a sister, Mary K. Hirt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven, with calling prior from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Father William Sullivan will be officiating and burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or St. Mary's Soup Kitchen.
