Lucia Isabel Salazar, 11, of Churubusco, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Hillsdale Hospital in Hillsdale, Michigan. Lucia was born in Yuma, Arizona on January 12, 2011 to Richard “Riky” and Edna (Garcia) Salazar.
Lucia loved God, her family, animals, school, reading, music, and art. She was compassionate and loved to help others. She had a passion for reading that extended to her siblings, taught her brother to read, and could always be seen with a book in her hand. She loved spending time with family, extended family, and church family. She is remembered as a loving daughter with an enormous heart and as a selfless great big sister
She attended Life Community Church in Fort Wayne, where she accepted Jesus on Good Friday 2 years ago. She loved to help lead worship during Vacation Bible Camp, participate in musical/plays and looked forward to helping in the nursery.
Having finished 5th grade at Huntertown Elementary, she is remembered for her genuine smile, gentle demeanor, and kind heart. She greeted teachers with hugs and put service to the younger students above her recess time, as a Wild Cat Worker. She loved playing the piano and recently the trombone. She looked forward to being part of Carroll Middle School’s band and choir. Her love for animals especially her dogs Coco and Teddy fueled her dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Survivors include her brother, Richard Alexander Salazar; her sister, Emily Elizabeth Salazar, both at home; her maternal grandparents, Ernesto and Gloria Aguilar of Fort Wayne, IN; Paternal grandfather, Humberto Salazar; 4 aunts, Marlin Villegas, Martha Cortes, Xitlaly Serna and Xochitl Salazar; 1 uncle, Freddy Salazar all of Fort Wayne, IN and 16 cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Friday August 5, 2022 both at Life Community Church, Fort Wayne.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. also at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Duane Burris and Pastor Stephen Cresse. Burial will follow in Huntertown Cemetery.
