John J. Girard, 58, of Monroeville, IN, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022. He was born in Decatur, IN, on January 9, 1964, the son of the late John R. and Rita C. (Rumschlag) Girard. On May 6, 2000, he married Mary Catherine Garrett.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and since his youth was involved in the St. Mary’s Choir. John was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School and Bellmont High School, Class of 1982. He had a degree in Music Theater from Indiana University and Associates in HVAC from Ivy Tech.
For 20 years, he was the property manager for Woodbridge Apartments in Ft. Wayne. Most recently he was a Concrete Mixer Truck Driver for Speedway Ready Mix, where he was a member of the Teamsters Local 414.
John was a former Treasurer and Threashing Director for the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association in Portland, where he had been involved for 45 years.
John was a lover of animals, especially his dogs, Cookie, Whitney, & Big White Dog.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Girard of Monroeville, IN; 2 sons, John Girard III “Garrett” (fiancée Kinlee Ellenberger) of Monroeville, IN, Adrien J. Girard of Monroeville, IN; a step daughter, Victoria A. Garrett of Fort Wayne, IN; 4 sisters, Jo Lynn Hiester of Decatur, IN, Mary L. (Richard) Arend of Wolcottville, IN, Rosanne "Po" (Ed) Dawson of Decatur, IN, Maggie (Rod) Hawkins of Decatur, IN; a brother-in-law, David Byers of Columbia City, IN.
John was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Byers and a brother-in-law, Keith Hiester.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Stephen Colchin will be presiding and burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Choir, Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association, or P.A.W.S. of Adams County.
