Joan C. Tinnel, 80, of Decatur, IN, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Joan was born in Monroeville, IN, on October 20, 1940, the daughter of the late Edwin J. and Fayma O. (Hart) Smith. On November 5, 1960, Joan marred Clyde Everett Tinnel and after 57 years together he preceded her in death on August 1, 2018.
Joan was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion Post 43 Ladies Auxiliary. She retired from Hardee’s after 30 years of working there from 1974 – 2004.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Bret (Shawn) Tinnel of Decatur and Rick Tinnel of Ft. Wayne; a daughter, Carla (Dan) Roman of Decatur; 4 brothers, Phil (Cheryl) Smith of Ossian, Don Smith of Convoy, OH, Jack (Nancy) Smith of Ft. Wayne, and Larry (Carol) Smith of New Haven; 2 sisters, Rosie Richard and Faye (Max) Meyer both of Monroeville; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with 1 on-the-way.
Joan was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Neil Smith and Leonard Smith and a sister, Dorothy Baker.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary prior at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Ruppert presiding. Inurnment will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Masses or A.C.C.F. Angel Cancer Fund.
