James G. Pollock, 92, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Thursday evening, September 16, 2021, at Swiss Village in Berne.
Jim was born in Decatur, Indiana on October 9, 1928, to the late Asa A. and Harriet E. (Roggenkemper) Pollock. Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Baer on June 12, 1954, in Van Wert, Ohio and they spent over 56 years together before she passed away on December 5, 2010.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Koren Conflict.
Jim was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Decatur.
He retired in 1989, from General Electric after 42 years of service. Following his “retirement” from General Electric his love of auctions and flea markets led him to work for Town & Country Auctioneers. Additionally, he drove cars from various locations for Shifferly Automotive.
Jim had a true love and passion for baseball and the youth. He coached Little League in Decatur for over 35 years. His passion for sports was broader than just baseball as he is in the Bowling Hall of Fame in Adams County. Jim also, was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicki L. (Kurt) Henkel of Fremont, Ohio; daughter, Cheryl A. Pollock of North Manchester, Indiana; son, Scott A. (Wanda) Pollock of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Norman E. (Sue) Pollock of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Roger L. Pollock of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Linda L. Pollock of Decatur, Indiana; five grandchildren, Ryan J. Henkel, Douglas E. (Megan) Henkel, James M.S. (Crystal) Lutes, Jessica R. (Timothy) Gilbert, and Logan S. (Maggie) Pollock; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cathy Jo Pollock, two brothers, Francis L. and David Pollock, and one sister, Mary Snyder.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
