George J. “Zimmy” Zimmerman, 74, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born in Decatur, IN, the son of the late George Francis and Evelyn (Wright) Zimmerman. On August 5, 1967, he married Louisa A. Kohne.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Decatur High School. Zimmy was a metal fabricator for Bunge for 40 years and then went on to work an additional decade at Universal Metalcraft.
He cherished the 28 seasons camping with his family at Jellystone. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and in his younger years was involved in flat track motorcycle racing. Above all he loved his grandchildren and his favorite name to be called was “Pa”.
Zimmy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louisa A. Kohne of Decatur; a son, George Scott (Amy) Zimmerman of New Haven; a daughter, Wendy L. (Mark) Winget; a brother-in-law, Kelly (Lisa) Kohne of Wolcottville; a sister-in-law, Shawn (Tony) Devido of Hoagland; 3 grandchildren, Dalton Zimmerman, Alyssa Winget, and Tiffanie Winget; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Kohne.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, also at the funeral home, with calling 1 hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Father Stephen Colchin will be officiating.
