Elizabeth Marie "Betty" (Imler) Hoverman

February 15, 1925 ~ January 29, 2021 (age 95)


Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Hoverman, 95, of Decatur, Indiana passed away at Adams Woodcrest on January 29, 2021.  She was born to Ray and Elizabeth (Brown) Imler on February 15, 1925 in Van Wert County, Ohio.  She married Cliff Hoverman on July 26, 1944, and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2012 after 68 years of marriage filled with love, joy, and laughter.

She was devoted to God and her family and was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. Her grandsons and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.  She served as a devoted Sunday School teacher for fifty years for all ages, ranging from children through adults.   She was also active in women's ministries and music in her earlier years.

She was a faithful walker and could be seen daily walking around the Woodcrest pond when she was able.  She was also an avid Indiana University basketball fan and rarely missed a televised game.

She was a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Van Wert, Ohio and also held a secretarial position in Sacramento, California where Cliff was stationed with the U. S. Army Air Corps.

She is survived by a daughter Carol (Dave) Hammond, son Ken (Kathy) Hoverman, three grandsons, Dr. Michael (Jennifer) Hammond, Pastor Mark (Tonya) Hammond, Ryan Hoverman, nine great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, Rebekah, Natalie, Anne, Evelyn, Christian, Mia, and Colstan Hammond and one sister Patricia Hofmann.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Matthew Hoverman, four brothers, Ralph, Paul, Ronald, and Lowell Imler and three sisters, Marietta Imler, Doris Imler, and Margaret Engel.

Private family services were held with burial in Decatur Cemetery.  

Memorials can be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur, Blackhawk Student Ministries, or Taylor University Annual Fund and sent to the funeral home.  

Expressions of sympathy to the family can be sent to the funeral home for forwarding.
