Edith C. Byerly, 82, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at her residence, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. She was born in Adams County, IN, on January 7, 1939, the daughter of the late Noah and Melvina (Beer) Hirschy. On March 1, 1959, she married Wayne Byerly.
She was an active member of Pleasant Dale Church where she had been involved in leading music for the children and being a Sunday School Teacher. Edith worked at Berco, G.E. in Decatur, Fleetwood, and along with her husband Wayne, were grounds keepers for the Adams County 4-H property for 17 years. She was also co-owner of Edie’s Antiques, was a lifetime farmer and drove an Amish bus, transporting students to and from Adams Central.
Edith is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wayne Byerly of Decatur; 2 sons, Brad (Susie) Byerly of Bluffton, Brent (Shar) Byerly of Decatur; 2 daughters, Betty (Mark) Mitchel and Becky (Mike) Burris both of Decatur; 2 brothers, Paul (Barb) Hirschy of Huntington, Richard (Inez) Hirschy of Monroe; 2 sisters, Carolyn Girod of Decatur, Helen (Larry) Funk of Tempe, AZ; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Florine Smith.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Pleasant Dale Church, with a calling 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Jay Carter, will be officiating and burial will take place immediately following in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.
