Carol Marie Wheeler, 84, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her daughter’s residence, surrounded with love by her 3 children, and walked into the loving arms of her husband, who had been waiting for her.
Carol was born on Sunday, August 14, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio to Albert Carol and Zona Marie (Bensley) Stiffler. On May 23, 1959, she married Edward L. Wheeler. They were blessed to be married just shy of 61 years before Ed’s passing on April 24, 2020.
She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Geneva, IN. Carol retired from CTS in Berne, IN after 35 years of service. She also kept herself busy, working at Wal-Mart in the cash office and the United Way of Adams County.
Carol was an affectionate wife, a loving mother, and an awesome grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, entertaining, playing cards and hanging out with her kids.
Carol and Ed enjoyed their winters in Florida, where they made many long-term friendships.
She is survived by her 3 children, Linda (Greg) Beery of Decatur, Ed (Sheryl) Wheeler of Decatur, and Connie (Brion) Gilbert of Monroeville; sister, Janice Benn of Jackson, MI and her constant companion, her cat Polly. 7 grandchildren, Shawn (Heather) Beery, Cody Gilbert, Cory (Melissa) Gilbert, Stephanie Ward, Erin Hay, Siearra (David) Nutt, Jerod Eckrote and 13 great grandchildren, Gage, Logan, Alaina, Amore, Londyn, Coen, Jack, Katie, Megan, Samantha, Alexandra, Bryce and Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed, Ed’s parents Walter and Alma Wheeler, sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Chuck Burton and brother-in-law, Ray Benn.
We will also be celebrating the life of our Dad, Ed who passed away during the COVID Epidemic, and we were not able to give him the glorious send off that he so deserved.
The family would like to thank the 2nd floor nurses at AMH and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their care of our mother.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, followed by a 6:00 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Michele Isch officiating.
Preferred memorials may be made to the Family for Final expenses (payable to Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt F.H.), Kate’s Kart or Adams County Animal Shelter.
