Virginia M. Smitley, 92, of Decatur, IN, passed away at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home on Thursday, April 19, 2018. She was born to the late Harry and Emily (Bracht) Worden in Adams County, Indiana on August 8, 1925.
She was a member of Salem Magley Church and worked most of her life as a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cross stitch, lottery tickets, and most of all helping raise her grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by her children, Nicky Smitley, Ronnie “Sam” (Myra) Smitley, and Mike Smitley all of Decatur, Sandy (Jonathan) Stevens of Sarasota, FL, Becky (Michael) Gage of Decatur, Arlene Wallace of Ft. Wayne, and Joyce Buck of Dunkirk, IN; 10 grandchildren, Katie, Tori, Leah, Emily, Dianna, Shaun, Danielle, Jason E., Jason D. and Stefanie, ; 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; 4 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Sharon K. Smitley and Brenda Duff; 1 son Terry L. Smitley; a son-in-law, John Buck; 2 sisters, Delores Gerber and Mary Jane Murchland; 3 brothers, Kenneth, Raymond, and Larry Worden.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Salem Magley Church , with calling 1 hour prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Christopher L. Hirschy will be officiating and burial will take place in the Salem Magley Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Salem Magley Church or Visiting Nurse Hospice Home.
