Virginia E. Chronister, 94, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born in Decatur, IN, on February 20th, 1925 the daughter of the late Ray and Verona (McClymonds) Venis. On June 22, 1947, Virginia married Paul W. Chronister in Decatur, who died on December 15th, 1967.
She was a founding member of St Mark's United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the women’s circle for many years. She was a 1943 graduate of Decatur High School. After graduation from high school, she returned to serve as a secretary for several years at the high school, as well as pursuing several jobs in the Decatur area after marriage. After being widowed at a young age, Virginia focused her attentions on raising her two sons.
Virginia is survived by two sons, Gary (Jane) Chronister of Decatur, and Brian (Lori) Chronister, also of Decatur. She is also survived by five grandchildren Andrea (Barrett) Chronister, Jason Chronister, Aaron (Katie) Chronister, Matthew Chronister, and Kyle Chronister; two great grandchildren Quinn Chronister and Zoey Chronister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, followed by a Private Family Service. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Jester. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
