Ronald “Ron” William Journay, 68, of Decatur passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at his residence. Ron was born in Portland, IN on August 16, 1950 to William and Marie (Bischoff) Journay. Ron was united in marriage to Rita J. Aspy on May 23, 1981.
Ron was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and served on the church’s woods Committee. Ron coached baseball for the Monmouth League, coached Girls’ softball, was a 4-H leader and served as co-president for the Monmouth P.T.O.
Ron was a store manager for Ehlerding Cycle, and then worked as a supervisor for Slater Steel, Contec and Bluffton Motor Works. Ron is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Forestry Management.
Ron was a very supportive husband and father; he enjoyed his kids, sporting events, woodworking, completing every project list made by his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Journay of Decatur; mother, Marie Journay of Decatur; Son, Brandon (Shu) Journay of Bedford, TX; 2 daughters, Stephanie (Jon) Rice of Noblesville, IN and Christine Journay of Indianapolis, IN; 2 brothers, Rex (Carolyn) Journay of Bryant, IN and Rick (Judy) Journay of Bellevue, OH; 3 grandchildren, Maverick D. Rice, Mason William Rice, and Maeve Han Journay. He was preceded in death by his father William Journay.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with calling 1 hour prior to service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Pastor Clint Holloway will be officiating and burial will be in Salamonia Cemetery, Portland.
Memorials are to Hanna Nuttman Park Project or Grandchildren’s Education Fund.
