Mary Virginia "Ginny" Schurger, 99, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Decatur, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Heritage Center Nursing Home in Evansville, IN. She was born in Adams County, IN, on July 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Helen E. (Meyers) Borns. On January 23, 1945, she married Mark E. Schurger and after 59 years together he preceded her in death on August 3, 2004.

She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, where she attended Mass daily and was a member of the Women of St. Mary’s, the Harvest House, the Queen of Peace Discussion Group, and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 20. She was also a long-time member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Upon moving to Evansville in 2015, she attended All Saints Catholic Parish.

Ginny worked for the United Abstract Company, later becoming the Schurger Abstract Company. She worked in the office for the Clerk of Adams County.

She is survived by a son, Thomas A. Schurger of Palmetto, FL; a daughter, Patricia S. (Joseph) Easley of Evansville; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an older brother, William J. Borns, and a younger sister, Ruth A. Braun.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Officiating will be Father David Ruppert and burial will follow taking place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 600 E. Virginia St., Evansville, followed by a reciting of the Holy Rosary.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or Masses.
