Marie “Marianna” McEntee died peacefully on January 15, 2019, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was 90.
Marianna was born on October 9, 1928 to her parents, Daniel and Mary Morris in Kokomo, Indiana. She moved to Fort Wayne in 1946, to attend Saint Frances College and pursue a degree in Education.
Marianna married Paul Richard “Dick” McEntee in 1950. She began her teaching career in the early 1960’s at St. Henry’s Catholic School, and then entered the special education field at Hoagland Elementary School in Hoagland, Indiana. She retired in 1979 and continued to connect with students through tutoring at home.
Marianna was a devoted mother, and advocate of community interaction. An avid reader, she also enjoyed the textile arts and gardening. Her youngest daughter, Beth, was a devoted companion throughout the years, and continues to be the keeper of Marianna’s spirit.
Marianna is survived by her son, Michael McEntee, and daughters, Julia Meek and Beth McEntee, nephew, Richie (Caitlin) McEntee, nieces Molly (Tanner) Tritch and Lizzy (Michael) Spillson, and 5 grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, and her sister, Helen Jackson.
Marianna will be buried in a private ceremony at the Catholic Cemetery in Ft. Wayne. A memorial celebration will take place this spring.
