Kenneth E. Schwaller, 85, of Decatur, formerly of Monroe, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 31, 1933 in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of the late Leonard A. and Anna L. (Brinkman) Schwaller. On August 11, 1956 he married Harriet V. Rauch.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was also a 1952 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a longtime farmer in Monroe, retiring in 1998.
Ken is survived by his wife of 61 years, Harriet Schwaller of Decatur; a son, Thomas (Julie) Schwaller of Monroe; a daughter, Cynthia (Mark) Gaeth of Caseville, MI; 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John K. Schwaller; a daughter, Kristine M. Pogue; a brother, Wilbur Schwaller; 2 sisters, Mary Helen Buescher and Lois Anne Schwaller.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in the Adams Woodcrest Porter Auditorium and then from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. David Ruppert and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or to Masses.
