John Alan Miller, 63, of Ft. Wayne and former resident of Decatur, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July, 11, 2017, in the Byron Health Center in Ft. Wayne. He was born in Kendallville, IN, on August 27, 1953, the son of the late Rev. Fuhrman P. Miller and Audra E. (Coats) Miller.
Overcoming several challenges, Alan was a proud 1973 graduate of Bellmont High School, where he ran on the cross country and track teams. After high school, he worked for a time at Decatur Industries and Decatur Casting and joined the Decatur Jaycees, where he received a “Jaycee of the Year” award.
He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur, where his father served as pastor for many years. He was a resident at Byron Health Center for 27 years, where his caregivers consistently described him as “such a kind gentle soul.” The family wishes to thank the staff at Byron for their loving care.
He is survived by 3 brothers Daniel Miller of Greencastle, Mark (Kathy) Miller of Bluffton, Rev. Kevin (Liz) Miller of Valparaiso, and 10 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service immediately following at the church. Pastor Chris Gadlage will be officiating and burial will take place in Decatur Cemetery.
