James “Jim” Teeter, 70, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in Adams Memorial Hospital. Jim was born on June 29, 1947; he is the son of the late Harold E. Teeter and Virginia A. Miller. Jim was united in marriage to Nancy D. Hitchcock on August 6, 1966.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 864.

Jim served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was a Disabled American Veteran and member of the American Legion Post 43. He graduated from G.E. Apprentice School and became a designer with G.E. of Ft. Wayne.

He was president of the Bellmont Wrestling Club president for several years and was part of Junior Achievement for a decade.  Along with being an avid Yankee’s fan, Jim also coached little league baseball for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy D. Teeter of Decatur; step-mother, Alta Teeter of Decatur; 2 sons, Scott (Kam) Teeter of Decatur and Christopher (Stephanie) Teeter of Lebanon, IN; daughter, Stephanie (Kip) Saylor of Ohio City, OH; 2 brothers, Donald Teeter of Largo, FL and Jay (Lynne) Teeter of Decatur; step-sister, Karen Zoss of Battlecreek, MI; 12 grandchildren, Brittney, Brandon, Aaron, Karly, Kasey, Jacob, Johnathan, Brittany, Debra, Chloe, Trevor, and Riley; great-granddaughter, Madalyn; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion dog Cooper.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Haggard- Sefton- Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Mary’s Parish Hall from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the American Legion Post 43.  

Memorials may be to the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
