James L. “Butch” Gilbert, 69, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on June 19, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital. He was born on May 20, 1949 in Decatur, IN to the late James N. and Emma W. (Bloemker) Gilbert. On February 28, 1970 he married Linda D. Wolfe.
He worked for Baker & Schultz for 30 years and then Rolling Rock and retired in 2014 from Crosby Excavating. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for Decatur for 20 years and a former member of Moose Lodge #1311.
Butch is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; Beverly (Rodney) Swygart and Vernon Gilbert all of Orlando, FL; Julie (Vern) Andrews and Jeremy (Jennifer) Gilbert of Decatur, IN; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Norma Gilbert of Florida; Maggie (Dick) Burke of Ossian, IN, Eydie (Kenny) Springer and Marilyn Bustamonte all of Ft. Wayne, IN.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edgar and Robert and 1 sister, Ruth Gilbert.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. also at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Pastor Chris Gadlage will be officiating and burial will take place at the Decatur Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be given to Make A Wish Foundation or Hoosier Burn Camp.
