Irene M. Hamrick, 90, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Adams Memorial Hospital. She was born in Van Wert County, OH, on April 7, 1928, to the late Harley V. and Christena E. (Rumschlag) Welker. She was then adopted and raised as the daughter of the late John & Anna Heimann. On July 14, 1951, she married Victor L. Hamrick and after 45 years he preceded her in death on May 18, 1996.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the former St. Anne’s Study Club. She was 1946 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. Irene was a homemaker and also worked in dietary for Adams County Memorial Hospital for several years. She also was a member of the Jolly Housewives, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.
Irene is survived by her son, Roger D. Hamrick of Ft. Wayne; 4 daughters, Colleen S. (Jerald “Jerry”) Andrews, Annie M. (Skeeter) Braun, Diane F. (Patrick) Fullenkamp and Barbara C. (Troy) Williamson all of Decatur; a ½ sister, Joan Custer of Van Wert, OH; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason D. Andrews; 6 brothers, Gordon Welker, Herbert Welker, Eugene Welker, Edward Heimann, Fr. Ambrose Heimann C.PP.S, and Fr. Lawrence Heimann C.PP.S. (both priests of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood)
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be officiating and burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
