Harriet J. Soldner, 91, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on August 17, 2018 at Adams Woodcrest. She was born on January 6, 1927 in Metamora, Illinois to Arthur H and Esther E. (Strubhar) Schertz. She married Frederick J. Soldner on August 26, 1950. He passed away on July 20, 2017.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served with the United Methodist Women, and a lifelong member of the Choir, helped with Funeral Dinners, volunteered with Meals On Wheels, and she also served on many community activities. Harriet taught Health & Physical Education at Adams Central School and retired in 1983 from the Bellmont Middle School where she taught Home Economics.
Harriet is survived by 3 sons, Timothy J. (Melissa) Soldner and Jeffrey A. (Karen) Soldner, both of Fort Wayne, IN; and John F. (Trina) Soldner of Estero, FL; 1 daughter, Sue A. (Kevin) Wills of Celina, OH; 1 sister, Dorothy Hostetler of Dublin, OH; 1 sister-in-law, Claudene Schertz of Metamora, IL; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Kay Davis and Ruth Sands; 2 brothers, Arthur Schertz and her twin, Harold Schertz.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Woodcrest from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, with visitation there one hour prior to the Service. Pastor Amy Covington will be officiating. Burial will take place at the Decatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, the Frederick J. and Harriet J. Soldner Scholarship Fund or the Bluffton College Scholarship Fund.
