Gayle E. Ainsworth, 81, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, April, 30, 2018 at Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1936, in Fort Wayne, IN, the son of the late Verne L. and Beatrice M. (Heckler) Ainsworth. On September 5, 1959, he married Judith A. Lane and after 53 years together, she preceded him in death on February 19, 2013.
He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. In 1980, he retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne after 29 years of service. Upon his retirement, he worked for 20 years at the Cross Creek Golf Course.
Gayle was a lifetime member of the Decatur Moose Lodge 1311 and was also a member of the Adams County Bowling Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and played in the Thursday night Golf League.
He is survived by 2 sons, Scott B. (Missy) Ainsworth and Michael E. (Patty) Ainsworth both of Decatur; a daughter, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Ainsworth of Decatur; a sister, Marlene Barnard of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Alex (Jessica), Luke (Brooke), Grant, Sam, Emma, and Joe Ainsworth.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, with calling 1 hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Pastor Chris Gadlage and Pastor Ernie Suman officiating and burial will take place in the Decatur Cemetery.
