Eugene A. “Gene” Braun, 91, of Decatur, IN, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Gene was born on December 14, 1926 in Decatur, IN, to the late Martin and Margaret (Kriegel) Braun. On November 4, 1950, he married Virginia L. "Ginny" (Cagnet) Braun and remained married for 62 years until she departed in May 2013.
Gene was a 91year parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He devoted his 60 year career to auto sales and the auto parts industry. Gene was a WWII Veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 864 (where he was a Past Grand Knight), 4th Degree Assembly 257, American Legion Post 43, Fraternal Order of the Moose 1311, the Adams County Barbershop Singing chapter, and Edsel Club for 45 years. He served on various church committees including the Notre Dame Smoker ticket committee for over 30 years, Gibault, and Country Bazaar. Gene enjoyed family time, lodge events, Edsel conventions, and Notre Dame games.
Survivors include his 6 children; Dennis (Julie) Braun of Fort Wayne, IN, Kenneth Braun of Decatur, James (Donette) Braun of Fort Wayne, IN, Dianna (Randall) Vetter of Decatur, John Braun of Decatur and Shaun (Sheri) Braun also of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; Nick (Natasha) Braun, Clint Vetter, Janelle (Mitchell) Gearhart, Brandon (Shannon) Braun, Casey (Katie) Vetter, Sommer Braun, Morgan (John) Snowball, Parker Braun, Hailey Braun, and Taylor Braun, 9 great grandchildren; Adalyn and Rylan Braun, Maddison and Mackenzee and Parker Gearhart, Kaylee and Chase Vetter, Elaelyn Easterday, Jack Snowball, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived also by 4 brothers Richard, Robert (Pat), Roger, and Paul (Fran) Braun and sister-in-law Carolyn (King) Braun.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Art and Floyd Braun, and 2 sisters Marcille Gibson and Honora Custer.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. K of C 4th Degree Honor Guard will post from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
A 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the St. Mary's Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be to St. Joseph Catholic School or Masses.
