David E. Ellsworth, 79, of Decatur, IN passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2017 at his residence. He was born on September 14, 1938 in Decatur, IN the son the late Francis and Mildred (Habegger) Ellsworth. On April 4, 1964 he married Rosemary Baker.
He was the 3rd generation owner and operator of Hi-Way Service in Decatur, retiring after 50 years.
Dave attended St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 1411, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 993, and the Decatur Rotary Club, where he served as a past president.
He enjoyed his summers on Crooked Lake, loved spending time with his family especially the grandchildren, and was a car enthusiast with a fondness for Corvettes.
Dave is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosie Ellsworth of Decatur; 2 sons, Scott (Mindy) Ellsworth and Jason (Sheri) Ellsworth both of Decatur; a daughter, Lyndi (Matt) Bienz of Ft. Wayne; a sister, Julie (Butch) Bauer of Ft. Wayne; 8 grandchildren, Zac, Chase, Morgan, Taylor, Nic, Lexi, Kali, and Brody.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 5:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society or to St. Joseph Catholic School.
