Carmen R. (Black) Hurst, 76, of Decatur, Indiana passed away at her residence on Thursday, May 16, 2019. She was born in Adams County, Indiana on August 14, 1942, the daughter of the late Wilbur James and Eleanor Elizabeth (Vollmer) Black. On January 27, 1962 she married Jerry W. Hurst.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and worked as a Homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 43.
Carmen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Hurst of Decatur; 2 sons, Jerry A. (Collette) Hurst and Gary E. Hurst both of Decatur, Indiana; 1 sister, Diane Carpenter of Decatur, IN; 5 grandchildren, Cody (Courtney), Caleb, Christopher (fiance Audrey Schultz), Cy (Maddi) and Luke; 5 great grandchildren, Easton, Harlow, Oliver, Houston and Layla; 1 niece, Lori Carpenter; 1 nephew, Scott Carpenter; and an adopted daughter, Patty Jo Wilson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Hurst who passed away on May 27, 1989.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home on Monday, May 20, 2019, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father David Ruppert will be officiating and burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Visiting Nurse Hospice.
