Thomas A. Staub, 69, of Decatur, passed away on Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Lutheran Hospital. Tom was born on July 1, 1947 in Decatur, IN to the late Louis H. and Mary H. (Lengerich) Staub. On July 15, 1967, he married Lois Ellen Crozier.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and a 1966 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. He worked as a machine operator for Dana Corporation, where he retired in 2000, after 36 years of service. He was also a courier for Courtesy Motors for several years after retiring.
Tom enjoyed woodworking, crafting leather sheaths and gun holsters, making knives, and collecting guns. He loved being with family and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois E. Staub of Decatur; 2 sons, Tony (Nancy) Staub of Decatur and Kerry Staub of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Sandy (Rodney) Busick of Decatur; his brother, Jerry (Marie) Staub of Hoagland; 2 sisters, Mary Ann (Pat) Lengerich and Decatur and Jean (Don) Lehman of Berne; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Staub of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Mary), Damon, Peyton, Caden Staub, Jenna, Meghan and Paige Busick. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Staub on March 17, 2013.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:15 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father Bob J. Lengerich will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
