Mike W. Baker, 72, of Decatur, Indiana; passed away on November 1, 2017 at Adams Memorial E.R. He was born on December 17, 1944 in Decatur, Indiana to the late William F. and Mildred (Blythe) Baker. On July 18, 1964, he married Mary J. Kable.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 864. Mike was Co-Owner and President of Baker & Sons Plumbing. He coached baseball for over 50 years and also coached basketball at St. Joseph Catholic School. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping, and was also a fur buyer.
Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Baker of Decatur; a daughter, Shelly (Kent) Kiefer of Decatur; 3 sons, Gary (fiancé Shelly) Baker of Decatur, Doug (Jenny) Baker of Warsaw, and Randy (Kari) Baker of Decatur; 2 brothers, Denny (Susie) Baker of Coldwater, MI, Greg (Ann) Baker of Decatur; a sister, Sandy (Ron) Hirschy of Decatur, IN; 13 grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Kiefer, Cheryl (Adam) Lengerich, Jon (Kandi) Kiefer, Elizabeth (Tyrell) Lengerich, Tyler (Kelsey) Baker, Landon, Brett, Thaddeus, Paxton, Grace, Bradley, Braelyn and Brooks, Baker; and 9 great grandchildren, Addy, Marshall and Simon Lengerich; Audrey, Elijah and Jude Kiefer; Theo Lengerich, Lillian Baker and Maxwell Cox.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary prior at 1:15 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior to service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father Bob J. Lengerich will be officiating and burial will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
